Egyptian Society Taunton

Welcome!

The Egyptian Society Taunton welcomes anyone with an interest in Ancient Egypt!

The Society was founded over three decades ago by a group of people, led by the late Professor Christine El Mahdy, to promote the study of Egyptology and to provide a meeting place for people with a love of Egypt, through activities such as regular lectures, disseminating information about courses, day schools and residential courses, arranging visits and trips, etc".

We meet in person on the second Saturday of each month from September to June at St James Church in the centre of Taunton.

It is with great sadness that we share the following news: Dr Robert Morkot, a British archaeologist and academic who specialised in ancient Egypt and focused his research on its external relations, particularly with Kush, passed away on 21 October 2025 at his home in Devon.
He will be sorely missed. He was a good friend of the Society.
